Few dancehall rhythms have stood the test of time quite like the Stalag Riddim, often associated with Sister Nancy’s iconic 1982 hit “Bam Bam.” Originally composed by Ansel Collins and released by Winston Riley’s Techniques Records in 1973, the Stalag rhythm has become one of the most versioned and influential foundations in reggae and dancehall history.
During the 1990s, the riddim enjoyed a massive resurgence as producers such as King Jammy, Steely & Clevie, Donovan Germain, and others created fresh re-cuts, keeping the classic rhythm alive in dancehalls, sound systems, and on radio stations around the world.
