Gifted with a voice comparable to some of his contemporaries, Dennis Brown, Bushman, Luciano. Singer Donovan Kingjay aka Singjay has been a regular on the UK scene for several years.
Born in London, however spent his formative years in Lucea, Hanover Jamaica before returning to the UK, where he finished his schooling and began his musical education. Then known as, Singjay, he served his apprenticeship on Youth sound Lord Creation before becoming a regular on East London’s King Original, North London’s King Josiah, also appearing on Unity and UK Youth Promotion. Encouraged by King original’s Wazir alongside Robert and Michael Palmer (Negus Roots) , Fatis & Sugar Minott, early development as an artiste gave him his first recording opportunities.
Singjay’s first release was the self penned “State of mind” which made a huge impact leading to shows in Holland and France, where the track really took life. Other releases followed on King Original records including combination with Steve Harper (now called Shalom), “Shake you down” and another great cover “Let’s stay together. His long stints with King Original, exposed him to a great many artistes, Producers and musicians in the Reggae music family. Of late Kingjay has been recording a number of soon released songs with producer Starkey Banton/ DBizzle’s Cushite record label, tunes like: Missing You, Save the children, Glory to HIM, Baby I love you so,

Great friends like Colorman, Daddy ants, Little John, General Trees, Sanchez, Frankie Paul, Tony Tuff, Mr Osborne Ruddock, Fatis, Steelie and Sugar Minott for whom he recorded “Never too late” at Blacker Dread studio, released in Jamaica on the Youth Promotion label 1998. During the mid to late 90’s there were a number of recordings for Daddy Noddy’s Yush Records again brought him to the forefront with songs like “Reach for the sky” “stop messing around” “Always and forever” among others on the airwaves.
Peter Richards gets a mention with 2 recordings, “Fortify my love”, “No more heartaches”, also Mikey Robinhood Vaughn, track entitled Nanny & Cudjoe (2007). Again Linking up with Wazir, Timeless and Ras Elroy Bailey’s Studio 55 label alongside Ras Kinah, Errol Bellot, Delly Pinnock, Selah Collins in 2005 saw releases “Half Never told” , “Mamma Africa”, “A Change”, Praise without Raise. Further releases and recordings swiftly followed 2006 onwards tracks including “I’m a Survivor” & “Ten out of Ten” for General Culture’s Stockade record label,
Tommo Ranks Silver star record label “Jailhouse”, “Unconditional Love”, “Gnashing Of Teeth”.
